Martin Wolff, In Memoriam

by Swaminathan Venkataraman

Namaskar everyone

I don't have as much to say about Martin as the two Peters did - wonderfully! I was fortunate enough to be part of the group of 3, 4, 5 people, which would often include Mohan, Satish and arthur, doing vedic chanting in the Ashrama from time to time. In addition to what Peter said, I want to mention something that shows Martin's sense of humor as well. We were talking about the 'Live Vedas' as Peter mentioned, and that they would do it on Saturday evenings - Martin called it "Saturday Night Live", which brought a nice smile to my face. He would encourage me, would always say, "Swami, you should come over every Saturday to chant." I was here in New Jersey a couple of hours away, so I could only make it on a few occasions. Martin's easy-going, unassuming nature is what I remember when I think about him.

He also used to like sanskrit stotras; Asha presented one of them There is one other stotra which Martin like that I happen to know - 'nirvana shatakam' composed by Shankaracharya as an 8-year old boy, which I will sing in homage to Martin.
